Tudor House & other gifts from undiscovered Kumaon

Written by: 'smitten guest-turned-friend'

A weekend at Tudor House, Sargakhet, a Kumaoni hamlet situated in the loving & generous lap of the Panchachuli peaks. Close enough for easy access to the effervescence of Mukteshwar, yet tucked away in sweet tranquility, this blessed little spot is now home to Ayesha & Rahool.

Having grown up at Sherwood College, Nainital, Rahool had carried an undying love for the Himalayas all through his fast-paced adult life in the city. Back in 2017 Rahool & Ayesha set out to identify the perfect spot to come back home to the mountains. The search, conceptualization and manifestation of their collective dream project was a six-year long journey studded with countless twists & turns. A story they now love to recount with their guests over drinks & dinner.

Now open to guests and peace-seekers, their home (and personal attention) is a true reflection of the joys of living a slower life. The rooms, balconies and shared spaces are as large, homey & cheerful as their love for meeting + hosting people.

Guests can choose from five uniquely and thoughtfully designed private rooms spread over 3 levels. The layout of this homestay is conducive to all settings- solo travelers, couples or groups. Each room measures a generous 385 sqft including a balcony/sit-out with uninterrupted views of the verdant valleys and snow-capped peaks. Guests are given the option to book out all 5-bedrooms together or any of the rooms individually, without compromising on privacy.

A lovingly operated 15 seater café with a multi-cuisine a-la-carte menu is open just for guests staying at this homestay. Subject to weather conditions, the hosts also provide al fresco dining and picnic setups at an additional cost. The kitchen is managed by a professionally trained chef who is also adept at taking special requests.

Given his life-long association with the region, Rahool is super familiar with every nook and brook that exists in and around Sargakhet. When he’s not busy keeping the place and team up & running, Rahool spends his days photographing birds and walking the trails that surround the property. Guided Birding Walks for those interested, there’s an endless list of guided birding walks that the hosts are more than happy to curate at an additional cost. Forest Walks the resplendent and protected IVRI forests are a short walk from this homestay.

Cafes of Mukteshwar a short walk/drive from the homestay gives our guests access to the lively food & beverage scene of Mukteshwar. Sargakhet is located a few clicks away from the picturesque, jewel in the Kumaoni crown town of Mukteshwar. The cottage is easily accessible by road from all major cities. Please note: the final 1.2 km stretch of road leading up to the place is unpaved.
